The Cool-Girl Blowout Everyone Wants Now

When it comes to blowouts, our main decision used to be wavy vs. straight. But right now, we’re finding we want…neither. Or rather, a little of both, blended into one effortless (yet difficult-to-define) texture. “My clients often describe it as ‘straight with a bend,'” says Beverly Hills hairstylist Anh Co Tran, whose mastery of this cool-girl hair has helped make his salon—and Instagram feed—wildly popular. “I love this look—it gives you great movement and body.” He’s not alone; celebrities have been all about half-and-half hair texture. Here are our favorite recent examples, plus stylist tips for getting your own wavy(ish) texture on.

Straight? Wavy? We can’t quite say. Danes recently wore her shoulder-length hair smooth with plenty of bend while getting her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “Since summer, women have been ditching the beachy-waves look for this more subtle and less-done version,” says celebrity hairstylist Mia Santiago of New York City’s Sharon Dorram at Sally Hershberger salon. “It’s more like mismatched bends throughout the hair. Your hair looks effortless.”
